Las Vegas’ Meadow City Soccer Club (MCSC) entered two teams to the 31sth Annual Gaylord Sheppard Memorial Tournament in Bernalillo this past weekend, and brought home some hardware for their efforts.

Coached by Ian Williamson, the U10 Ninjas were led by Aaron Doss (12 goals) and Theo Williamson (6 goals), and dominated most of their division outscoring their competition 20-4. All four goals came in a heated championship match vs Clovis, which went into overtime. Clovis edged out the Ninjas 4-3 for the Gold. The Ninjas’ second place win is the highest any team from Las Vegas has placed at this tournament.

With just one month preparation and sporting the only co-ed team in the Boys division , the U12 Rebels made an impressive debut in the tournament staying competitive with top teams from throughout the state. “The future looks bright for this group,” said assistant coach Ron Doss. “They played with incredible fortitude and heart. As they experience more high level play they will continue to hone their skills and confidence and absolutely become a contender.”

The Gaylord Sheppard is the largest open youth soccer tournament in New Mexico and features over 150 teams.

The Meadow City Soccer Club, now in it’s second year, offers opportunities for Las Vegas athletes to develop high level soccer skills at academy training, and, if selected, experience top-level soccer throughout the state on the travel teams.
