For weeks members of Las Vegas’ Meadow City Soccer Club (MCSC) have been training in freezing temperatures in preparation to close their 2016 season at a 3v3 LIVE! Soccer Tournament in Las Cruces. That preparation paid off December 10 when the Ninjas U10 3v3 Boys team swept the competition for gold and the Rebels U12 3v3 Girls team, in their first 3v3 tourney, split 2-2 for a bronze.
The Ninjas, led by head coach Iam Williamson, played 5 games in as many hours and outscored their competition 33-13. In the Championship match the Ninjas battled undefeated Las Cruces Gold team “United” in a thrilling final that saw the lead change hands three times before a last second goal by the Ninjas sealed their tourney win with a 6-5 victory. The U10 Ninja teams have won two gold and one silver in tournament play this year.
The Rebels, a new team led by coaches Ron and Shannon Doss, played 4 games and outscored their competition 15-13. The rebels split their record 2-2 and won 3rd in their division. This was the first time the club has assembled an all-girl team for travel play.
“We have been getting asked a lot of questions at the end of our games,” said Rebels co-coach Shannon Doss. “Where are you from? how long have you played together?” It’s fun to see their reactions when we tell them the answers. It proves competitive youth soccer in Las Vegas is gaining momentum and getting noticed.”
Started in 2014 by Williamson and the Dosses, the MCSC is an all-volunteer organization focused on giving local athletes opportunities to elevate soccer IQ and play competitive soccer throughout the region. For a small fee, the club allows players to join the soccer academy for practice and, if selected, travel to tournaments for high level play.
The MCSC will resume training in Mid January. If interested in signing up your child or contributing resources please email meadowcitysoccer@desertgate.com or drop by DesertGate Internet for more information.
